   Proposal Description:
   The goal of the present project is to evaluate whether white matter degeneration is an early sign of dementia/AD. Our laboratory has shown that white matter and oligodendrocyte lineage are susceptible to amyloidosis in pre-clinical model in vitro and in vivo. Importantly, white matter degenerates prior to the neuronal degeneration.  While the analysis of human samples is underway, we would like to request data from NACC to look at the population picture.   Our findings will be important to assess whether white matter degeneration and aberrant oligodendrocyte differentiation is an early biomarker for AD. An early AD biomarker detectable before neurodegeneration will be crucial to for early intervention and slow down the progress of AD in the population.
